I was traveling overseas and needed a navi since I would be doing a lot of driving. Sygic was the only navi that worked in the area I visited so gave it a shot.- The initial download is a 7-day free trial after which you need to pay for the maps you want.- Some map files can be rather large so if possible download the maps where you have fast internet access. I actually set mine to download when I was off to bed.- I downloaded the Sygic navi on my Galaxy Note was just like using any other stand alone navi.- Sygic gives turn by turn voice commands.
However if I did not make a recommended turn, Sygic would recalculate the route as usual but does not give you that familiar voice 'recalculating new route' notification. So you need a little extra vigilance- Sygic has a lot of the basic navi functions live Home, POI, save your own POI, Waypoints, Saved routes, optimize routes with waypoints, and so on.There were a few improvements I would like to see:- Ability to save your current location is not intuitive. This should be as easy as one-click.- Maybe a 'BlockPoint' feature (like the WayPoint) would be nice as well since some roads can be blocked for awhile due to construction or repair. This way Sygic would take BlockPoints into consideration when creating a route.- Also nice would be to have a 'Map Share' community like with TomTom, where we could add/delete roads to our maps and keep it updated and share with others in the community.Overall, Sygic is a decent navi but still needs some improvements to make it more convenient to use and to compete with the major players. In my case where there was no alternative, I have no regrets paying for Sygic and I look forward to improvements.
For the US though I will stick with Google navi. I used this on my tablet and loved it as it had the feature to save map data which really comes in handy when driving 'out of service' areas however an update totally crippled it, thats when the fun started. I paid around $29, I believe, for the full version of this app and in a world of free apps thats a steep charge however I was so pleased with it I felt it was deserved. Then the update came and my countless emails and calls to what certainly can not be called customer 'service' by any means. Long and short I would avoid it as any issues it may cause and certainly any issues it may have will likely only be headache for you to remedy.A Shame considering if I got even the slightest help from the creators which meant anything I would likely rate it much higher. Details: I have a rooted HTC Inspire running the most recent Cyanogenmod 7.I had Navigon installed and really liked it, until I discovered that they only sell the full Europe product in the U.S. And I was only going to Scotland.I found Sygic, and used it with much success over there, entering UK addresses as we went.Upon returning to the U.S., I tried Sygic with my Contacts, but since it required several minutes to load every single time I accessed the Contact list, I went back to Navigon.Then Navigon was updated, and can no longer accurately find Contacts on the map. At all.When I saw that Sygic was updated (in the Android Market), I patiently let it update (several hours of downloading required), and behold, it loaded my Contacts much faster than before.
Not.fast,. by any measure, just fast-er. But at least it opened.When the Amazon market app notified me of an update, I thought perhaps it was a second update, so I did that.Upon conclusion of the update, the Amazon app informed me that this was not 'associated' with my Amazon account, would I like to install the Amazon version? Sure.Two hours of downloading later, I rebooted my phone and opened Sygic.Which sat on the 'Initializing.' Screen for over half and hour.Goodbye Navigon, goodbye Sygic.Hey Google, I'm sorry I doubted. Just hope I get signal everywhere I travel next.

For 15 EURO (about $24) Sygic is the best navigation package for Android. You might say copilot basic version is only $5.

But guess what? Many useful features are blocked in that version. In order to have a fully functioning gps, you must buy the copilot premium which is also $25. Now we can compare the two.
Also other alternatives such as Ndrive and Navigon are more expensive.Except for Sygic, none of the alternatives are visually pleasing. It is the best looking software. For only $24, I highly recommend this. You need a gps package if you don't have data service. Maps are stored on your memory card. Therefore it saves your precious data bits.
Another good thing about Sygic is that you can download each state individually. This saves your memory card space. I did not have any map download issues.It is a free trial on both Amazon and android market. YOu have to purchase license key from Sygic's website.
I should have been suspicious when I couldn't find Sygic on the 'official' market; that usually means the author has said 'no' for your device., but pics of the map screens looked SO nice.n Anyway, I got it here for my Xoom, and was stymied by the request for the activation code, after the review I saw said there was trial version. Xoom is conspicuously missing from their list of compatible devices, but the Galaxy Tab 10 IS listed! 1 8 to usb. Both are Honeycomb devices, so that sucks.n.sigh.nIf only I could figure out why the download of the 350MB worth of maps that Navigon wants always fails at 99%!nGuess I'm stuck with an old copy of CoPilot for now.nPeace out.
